It has been a whole 15 days since you last heard from me, and honestly? You haven’t missed much. I mean, you really didn’t need another post of me saying “I swear, I think I almost have it together this week!” And then promptly not having anything together at any point during the week ever.
For what it’s worth, though, I really do think I almost have my shit together this week.
I still love the job. Don’t get me wrong - it is hard most days. My to-do list only goes in one direction, and it isn’t the one that makes me feel like I’m being productive. My head is swimming by the time I clock out for the night, and some of the real estate legal-ese might as well be another language, but man.
It’s great.
Every day is different. This is the hardest I’ve worked in years, and I think it’s because I see the work I’m doing having a direct impact on the work my bosses are doing. If I can learn something faster, or take on a task that they hate, or find an easier way to do something, then it frees them up to do the work they like and are good at - helping people buy and sell homes.
Personally, I was never going to get into Sales. This was obvious the Black Friday I was working at KB Toys and refused to push the new digital Rubik’s Cube, so yeah, it’s a skill that I don’t have. But keeping people organized so they can help other people make the biggest financial decision they’ll make in their entire life? That I can do.
But, believe it or not, I didn’t come on here tonight to wax poetic about being a glorified secretary. No. Instead, there is a phrase I can’t get out of my head lately about people my age-ish and younger.
We all want a village, but none of us want to be villagers.
In 2026, I’m trying to be a better villager. First, I do firmly believe that if you’re raising children, it is silly to think you can do it alone. I am not always available to help. And when I’m available, I’m not always willing, but I’m not writing this blog post after my bedtime to praise myself for being the best and most reliable babysitter the world has ever seen. I already told you I’m trying to be better, so if you need to bring your children for us to hang out, or you need to drop a child off for an hour so you can have some sanity in Wegmans, I gotchu.
But I don’t think only moms need villages. We all do. And again, I’m not great at it. Sometimes I disappear when I’m all up in my own feelings, or maybe I fell asleep after the work to-do list got to me, but you can always tell me the shit going on in your life , or ask for a ride to the airport, or whatever.
This also means I am going to be trying to be more social. Most people think “introvert” and “shy” are interchangeable, but that’s not true. I am a wildly outgoing person, but once the party is over, good bye, you need to go, and I will be recharging my social battery on my own for the next 4-7 business days.
Well, not entirely on my own. I will have the GBBO and Somebody Feed Phil to keep me company.
But my point is… wait, I definitely had a point tonight!
My point is - I’m trying to be a better villager. A villager I would want in my life. And if I fail at it, point it out. Or invite yourself over for wine. Or ask for a ride to the airport. Or whatever.
Come be a villager.!
